Difference between Remapping and DPF

Buying and maintaining a car is a rather expensive proposition. After having spent money on this, you would want to ensure the best performance. Many car owners these days are opting for a range of modifications such as Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) removal and ECU (Engine Control Unit) or car remapping in North West England. Both these processes are entirely different operations which produce different results. Let us understand some of the primary differences between both these operations.

Difference in Application

DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter is located within the exhaust system, which prevents larger and heavier particulates that comes from diesel exhaust. This filter captures these particulates and burns when the temperature of the engine becomes maximum. DPF removal is the process of removing the filter to avoid additional expenses in case the filter becomes clogged. There are several garages offering DPF in Liverpool and elsewhere. Car remapping is the process of reprogramming the part of the engine’s software. The software controlling the engine’s performance is modified or changed entirely during the remapping process.

Differences in Performance

DPF removal will only make a difference if the existing filter is dirty or clogged, thereby affecting the normal performance. DPF removal averts future damage and eliminates the need for filter replacement making the vehicle to regenerate properly. On the other hand, garages offering car remapping in Liverpool or other parts of the UK do it with the intent to improve the performance of the car. Remapping can improve fuel efficiency, increase torque and more. A car’s engine can also become more responsive after remapping, allowing the driver to overtake with ease.

Legal Differences

The greatest difference between DPF and car remapping is the legality involved. Technically, it is legal for garages to remove the DPF as long as the car in question will not be driven. Driving a diesel vehicle without an installed and fully functioning DPF is now illegal in the UK as it does not comply with the emission standards set by the government bodies. Car remapping in North West and other locations is still legally acceptable as it enhances the performance of the vehicle without adding to pollution.

DPF removal and car remapping are two completely different procedures done for different reasons giving different results. Be sure to understand what you do to your vehicle to improve its performance. After spending all that money, you do not want to damage your car or violate the law.
